Job specification

  • is responsible for performing expert level design, configuration, operation and troubleshooting of enterprise storage infrastructure
  • is responsible for the identification and implementation of technical improvements, features optimization, automation, and storage architecture enhancements to ensure that storage requirements are delivered in an effective and efficient manner.
  • acts as a technical liaison and is expected to represent the group in both project and support contexts. This individual will be expected to build effective ongoing relationships with various internal groups and external vendors.
  • contributes and leads various planning and reporting activities to ensure effective operation, performance and sustainability of the enterprise storage. This includes but is not limited to the areas of capacity, performance, availability and upgrade roadmaps.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Works with other infrastructure teams and customers to design and implement business technology solutions comprised of storage and related technologies
  • Works with various vendors of SAN and NAS storage hardware to ensure the maintenance of firmware/microcode to the appropriate levels.
  • Executes standard administration tasks including but not limited to provisioning, reclamations and response to system alerts.
  • Evaluates, selects, designs, integrates and implements new system architectures, tools and techniques.
  • Understands, contributes to and promotes standards, guidelines and policies for the use and integration of storage technology.
  • Performs and leads, as appropriate, capacity planning, system installations, upgrades, performance optimization and other maintenance activities for enterprise and departmental systems.
  • Reviews the environment and proactively recommends changes to ensure the environment operates effectively and that likelihood of problems is minimized.
  • Contributes to enterprise storage technology strategy development.
  • Performs expert level troubleshooting in all aspects of the storage environment including arrays and networks.
  • Leads the selection, adoption and optimization of features within the storage environment.
  • Creates and implements automation and scripts to improve accuracy and efficiency of tasks.
  • Identifies initiatives to improve storage environment in line with the needs of the business and enterprise architecture.
  • Contributes to and leads, as appropriate, documentation and ongoing documentation standards for configuration, architecture and support.
  • This role has the requirement for after-hours support and implementations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or related discipline, or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum 5 years or IT experience with 3 or more years experience with SAN & NAS storage technology.
  • Operating experience with many of the following technologies:
EMC (Symmetrix VMAX, Clariion, Celerra, Isilon)
NetApp (NetApp FAS)
HDS
Cisco and Brocade Fibre Channel switches
Windows Server, various Unix/Linux
  • Demonstrated experience and strong foundation (conceptually and hands on) in SAN zoning, LUN masking, fibre channel protocol, and TCP/IP as it pertains to storage management.
  • Demonstrated analytic and problem solving skills for evaluating various technical solutions against business needs.
  • Demonstrated experience in system implementations, upgrades, automation, design reviews and feature optimization.
