European Engineering Research & Development Director - industrial company

Our client is looking for Director of newly established R&D center of a big industrial company.

FOCUS:
Lead and manage mechanical and electrical engineering research and development teams, to create concepts and turn these into marketable propositions for company customers, by working closely with the Innovation Platform and Sales teams.

KEY ROLES:
Maintain responsibility for overall leadership and management of R&D activities with an emphasis on product design for our mechanical business areas.
To effectively lead, manage and develop the R&D team of Mechanical / Design Engineers.
Manage projects to support product development in accordance with agreed upon budgets and timelines.
Work closely with Innovation Platform and Sales teams to enhance current products and / or develop new products for introduction into the marketplace.
Assess and prioritise the Company’s R&D objectives to take advance of market opportunities and emerging technologies.
Manage cross functional project teams in development of products.
Provide leadership selecting core technologies for new products and to implement improvements to existing products.
Manage, implement, and present results from product revisions and other projects for successful cost savings to maintain competitiveness and profitability.
Manage working partnerships with available internal and external resources for product concept, product development, prototype creation, pilot manufacturing and testing.
Develop relationships with external companies to partner in developing new products.
Ensure that activities are performed to relevant governing standards and regulatory requirements including design and control procedures.
Establish and maintain the department budget(s).
Provide guidance and service as a role model to team members and other staff.
Develop team members through, coaching and mentoring.
Maintain an open channel of communications among all departments and personnel to ensure consistent dialogue, foster initiative, reduce attrition, and maintain engagement.

OUR CLIENT REQUESTS:
An innovative leader with experience managing a R&D team, with experience of innovative dosing technology will be advantageous.
Broad engineering skills gained through working with multiple / varied technologies.
Solid understanding of both mechanical and electrical / electronic engineering in order to facilitate the development of a concept
Experience of managing a team of design and development engineers, and ensuring they work collaboratively to turn concepts into a marketable proposition.
Remarkable industry experience with a proven track record of successful product development within a regulated product development environment is preferred.
Several years of management experience with multiple direct reports is preferred.
The ability to take customer needs and develop these in conjunction with Marketing and Sales functions, to deliver concepts which revolutionise the market / customer operations.
A record of developing commercialized products for volume production is required.
Experience working in a multidisciplinary team setting bringing products from conception through market release and beyond.
Demonstrable experience of people-management, leadership and both written and verbal communication skills developed in this capacity.
Proven track record of new product launch, creative thinking and consistent delivery of strategic goals.
Ability to work independently, prioritize responsibly, supervise and motivate subordinates and to work well with them and others.
Demonstrable excellent interpersonal skills collaborating with co-workers and clients.
Comfortable with public speaking and leading meetings with internal and external customers.
Familiarity with specific markets area, e.g. lubrication, water treatment, waste water.
Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite applications.
Fluency in written and spoken English, Czech language is an advantage only.
Written and spoken fluency in another language desirable but not essential.
Degree in Engineering.
Post graduate qualification in engineering is an advantage
Must possess a current full driving licence.
