Job description, responsibilities and duties
JOB DESCRIPTION:
In order to support the rapid growth of our partners' business units, a permanent position for a Network Engineer is needed in EMEA. Under the supervision of the Team Leader, the Network Engineer is responsible for incident and problem management activities related to the corporate network and network security services. He / she is working in a team of highly engaged engineers and is expected to be proactive, communicative and
contribute to the continuation of a high performance service delivery. For this particular position the focus is on daily operational tasks.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Incident and Problem Management
- Work on incidents arising in the area of network and network security services
- Monitoring of the respective Remedy queue(s) during the defined weeks of SPOC (single point of contact)
- Work on problems arising in the area of network and network security services. Analyse the problem andpropose solutions for permanent fix
- Interface and communicate with internal customers for trouble shooting, proactive notification and incident/ problem close out
- Involve other departments and resources in the incident / problem management process when everneeded
Daily Management tasks
- Contributes to the completion of reoccurring tasks within the network and network security services
- Monitoring of the network environment using the existing suite of monitoring tools
Service Deployment tasks
- Owner of a couple of network and network security deployment tasks according the GI business plan
- Supports / contributes to the project scope definition
- Communication to stake holders and other project resources involved
- Completion of technical tasks within the scope of the project; of allocated tasks in a timely manner
- Triggers escalation to his / her manager when needed to manage his / her projects along the agreedtiming
- Reporting on task progress, findings and close out
Continuous service and process improvement
- make suggestions for service and process improvement at any time an improvement opportunity isspotted
- Process documentation and documentation review and updateRegular reporting and contribution to the service reputation
- Provide weekly reports on achievements and project progress
REQUIREMENTS:
- At least 3 to 5 years relevant practical experience in information systems functions, with significant exposure to network technologies & security mainly CISCO based infrastructure
- Profound knowledge of networking and network security, TCP/IP, LAN, WAN, WLAN, QoS, Firewall, DMZ, SSL-VPN
- Hands-on experience in configuration of CISCO routers & switches, WLAN Access Points, GSS, CSS, ACE, PIX, ASA, BlueCoat devices
- Understanding of network monitoring concepts and experience of using various systems such as Netscout, Cacti, etc.
- Good understanding of connectivity technologies: Leased lines, Frame Relay, MPLS, DSL, ISDN, VPN (IPSEC, GRE)
- Exposure to Cisco VPN concepts such as EasyVPN and DMVPN
- Thorough knowledge of routing protocols: BGP, EIGRP, OSPF
- Expert level in network troubleshooting (capture and analyze network traffic, understand various network and application level protocols)
- Very good analytical skills
- Customer focused
- Excellent communication skills and proficiency in speaking and writing in English
