Information about the position

Job description, responsibilities and duties

• Analyze, develop, modify, install, test, and maintain, and manage infrastructure components, systems servers, and associated services related to backup Servers and tape libraries.
• Work with a highly professional team as a TSM backup support expert in gathering backup performance reports, trending, benchmarking, capacity.
• Support evaluations of vendor supplied software packages and make recommendations to IT management. Make recommendations regarding optimization of software and hardware integration on the existing network infrastructure.
• Participate in component and data architecture design, software product evaluation and buy versus build recommendations.
• Modify and/or debug vendor-supplied utilities and packages.
• Modify, install and prepare technical documentation for system software applications.
• Diagnose, isolate and de-bug software problems and perform problem resolution.
• Monitor system capacity and performance, plan and execute disaster recovery procedures, and provide Tier 3 technical support.
• Work on multiple products, activities and projects as a project team member, occasionally as a project leader.
• Perform other related duties as required.
• Provided support on backup infrastructure
• Perform daily maintenance procedures on both backup applications.
• Improved the performance of the nightly backups.
• Worked with other SAs to ensure maximum performance from Tivoli and Networker applications.
• Provided and assisted with problem determination and troubleshooting

EDUCATION
• Essential:
o University working and thinking level, degree in computer science or 5 years comparable education / experience
• Desirable:
o ITIL V3
o IBM AIX Systems Administrator Course 4.x
o Legato Networker Administration
o Veritas, TSM, Networker
EXPERIENCE
• Minimum 5 years of IT work experience in systems administration and programming
• Wide range of systems infrastructure design and implementation experience, including Wintel, UNIX and Storage (IP/FC SAN) systems.
• Experience in Windows 2003, 2008; File Shares to EMC VNX NAS Appliance
• Knowledge of multiple network infrastructure software systems (i.e., Novell eDirectory, Netware, VMWare etc.).
• Administer EMC Recover Point Remote Replication
• Monitor Netbackup Environment Performance
• Experience in planning for space, power, and cooling requirements.
• Working knowledge of WAN and LAN technologies including IP, Switches and Firewalls.
PRODUCT/MARKET/CUSTOMER KNOWLEDGE
• Experience working in pharmaceutical, biotech, or life sciences industries
SKILLS/JOB RELATED KNOWLEDGE
• Good understanding of all Backup administration tasks (installs, patching, system recovery, monitoring, performance/capacity reporting/analysis, network configuration, name resolution, file sharing, file system, disk management, security, troubleshooting OS & application issues – performance, events, logs)
• Good understanding of multi-tier application design and troubleshooting techniques.
• Working knowledge of performance monitors and debugger tools.
• Solid understanding of networking, including the principles of network routing and client/server programming.
• Ability to solve problems independently, quickly, and completely and to communicate them clearly to management.
• Ability to adapt to rapidly changing technology and apply it to business needs.
• Ability to assist with network and application troubleshooting; provide technical consulting support.
OTHER
• Fluency (oral and written) in English, any additional language is a plus
• This position requires a strong blend of leadership, communication and technical skills working in a global team environment.
• Working collaboratively in a global environment and cross-functional project teams
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Ability to collaborate with resources from business lines, acting as subject matter expert for backup Services.
