Job description, responsibilities and duties

Responsible for owner’s project management of a key Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) construction EPC contract.
The scope of the reference EPC contract is the detailed design, procurement, construction and commissioning of key safety classified mechanical systems within the Nuclear Island of the NPP.
The main responsibilities include:
• To be the interface point of the Contractor’s Project Manager for the execution of the project;
• To verify compliance of the Contractor's activities with Contract schedule and quality requirements and implement corrective actions in case of underperformance;
• To verify compliance of the Contractor's activities with project rules and to quickly implement corrective actions in case of deviations;
• To coordinate internal Owner’s organizational units and disciplines in order to ensure timely performance of Owner’s contractual duties in accordance with Contractual requirements and Project procedures;
The main relevant Owner’s organizational units are: Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Commissioning, Planning, Health and Safety, Quality Control, Licensing.
The main relevant Owner’s duties are: Licensing and approvals by Nuclear Regulatory Authority and other State Authorities, overall Project planning, coordination of detailed design activities, provision of interface design input data for Contractor’s design activities, verification and approval of Contractor’s Project technical documents relevant to the design, procurement, fabrication, erection, commissioning activities, Quality Control at factory and at site, coordination of Contractor’s construction activities, coordination of Contractor’s Commissioning activities, certification of project milestones;
• To demonstrate visible leadership and commitment to excellent HSSE performance, regular safety walk-downs; to ensure effective health and security provisions to protect people and assets;
• To drive the identification of project risks relevant to the Contract and develop and implement risk response action plans for the top risks. Also capitalize on potential opportunities;
• To ensure rigorous application of the management of changes process in accordance with Project rules and in particular:
- to manage design changes relevant to the Contract;
- to manage contract variations and Contractor’s claims, supported by Contract Management and Procurement Units;
- to negotiate and coordinate preparation of Contract amendments.
• To embed a ‘one team’ approach to design, engineering, construction and execution components of the project;
• To approve achievement of payment milestones and approve related payments;
• To approve key sub-contractors proposed by Contractor;
• To coordinate the preparation of all technical and process data relevant to Contractor’s performances;
• To verify the monthly progress report prepared by Contractor;
• To prepare the Contract progress report for the Owner’s Project Management.

Personality requirements and skills

• Experience in the Project Management of Large Nuclear construction projects;
• Experience in the Nuclear construction projects preferably within engineering or site construction;
• Skilled in the Management of LS contracts as part of an owners Team;
• Education: Engineering degree (Master degree highly preferable), preferably nuclear or mechanical;
• Chartered member of a relevant engineering institution (preferred);
• Language skills: use of English as a working language;
• Ability to drive and deliver projects in line with contract expectations;
• Ability to manage activities with significant uncertainty of solution or outcome;
• Successful leadership of commercial negotiations with contractors;
• Experience of identifying project critical success factors and risks, and in developing and implementing plans to manage these;
• Ability to demonstrate a good knowledge of key project performance drivers, operational requirements, financial and commercial aspects of project delivery;
• Strong and effective communication skills (written and oral) supported by interpersonal skills that allow working at a senior level with Contractors or other stakeholders;
• Team player mindset with ability to interface with teams in different locations;
• Ability in contract negotiation and closure.
