Information about the position
Job description, responsibilities and duties
In this role, you combine operational excellence with architectural responsibility. You design, implement and continuously improve secure, highly available hybrid, Microsoft 365 and Azure solutions, supporting customers from requirements analysis through to operational handover.
Your role
• Analyse, diagnose and resolve complex IT issues across on-premises, cloud and hybrid infrastructures in a sustainable manner.
• Operate, configure and continuously improve Windows and Linux server systems, server clusters, and VMware and Hyper-V environments.
• Plan, implement and operate Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, file services, PKI, storage, backup and monitoring solutions.
• Administer and enhance Microsoft 365 environments, including Microsoft Entra ID, Exchange Online, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint Online and OneDrive for Business.
• Design and operate Microsoft Intune, Windows Autopilot, Microsoft Defender XDR, Conditional Access, MFA and Microsoft Purview.
• Operate and configure Azure resource groups, virtual machines, virtual networks, storage accounts, Azure Backup, Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Update Manager, Azure Automation and runbooks.
• Automate recurring tasks with PowerShell; Infrastructure as Code using Bicep or Terraform is an advantage.
• Install and configure operating systems, third-party software and business applications.
• Contribute to and assume technical responsibility within infrastructure, data centre, migration, security and cloud projects.
• Create and maintain clear operational, architectural and project documentation.
• Work closely with consulting, security, network, service and project teams, as well as customers and external partners.
Architecture and design responsibilities
• Elicit and assess technical and business requirements and translate them into sustainable solution architectures.
• Design modern on-premises, hybrid and cloud architectures with due consideration for security, availability, scalability, maintainability and commercial viability.
• Develop target architectures, migration paths, technical roadmaps, operating models and decision papers.
• Design Azure landing zones, management group and subscription structures, role and permission models, Azure Policy, naming, tagging and governance.
• Design network architectures including hub-and-spoke, hybrid connectivity, VPN/ExpressRoute, private endpoints, DNS integration, Azure Firewall, Application Gateway and load balancing.
• Design identity and access management solutions using Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, hybrid identity, Privileged Identity Management and Zero Trust principles.
• Design high availability, backup, disaster recovery, business continuity, monitoring and operational handover concepts.
• Conduct technical assessments, architecture and security reviews, and structured customer workshops.
• Advise stakeholders, facilitate technical decisions, and present solution options, risks, dependencies and costs clearly.
• Define and establish standards, reference architectures, best practices and reusable templates.

Professional qualifications
• Completed vocational or academic IT education, or equivalent qualifications and relevant practical experience.
• Several years of experience in IT infrastructure administration, consulting or solution architecture.
• Very good knowledge of Windows Server, Active Directory, virtualisation, networking fundamentals, backup, monitoring and IT security.
• Hands-on experience with Microsoft 365, Microsoft Entra ID, Intune and Azure in production enterprise environments.
• Strong troubleshooting, root-cause analysis and sustainable problem-resolution skills.
• Experience with migrations, lifecycle management and the secure operation of business-critical systems.
• Good PowerShell skills; experience with version control, Infrastructure as Code or CI/CD is an advantage.
