Job description, responsibilities and duties

1. Key Purpose Statement

The Synthetic Process Engineer is responsible for developing, implementing, monitoring and maintaining efficient manufacturing processes and workflow. This will include improving process performance and product quality by reducing process variability and implementing improvement projects by implementing safer processes, better yield (lower waste), lower downtime, and lower cost. Moreover the process engineer will be the project leader for any modifications on the production processes, including start-up of new production lines.

 Develop innovative solutions
 Continual evaluation of equipment and processes to ensure both efficiency and quality remain high
 Organize,implement and maintain production process flow
 Develop working instructions, workmanship standards and process documents, and ensure they are followed
 Improve continually existing operation, for increased quality, productivity, efficiency and cost savings
 Manage manufacturing documentation required for product manufacturing i.e. revise drawing, BOM, accurate work instructions and workmanship standards and process procedures
 Train and supervise staff on new development processes and technology
 Provide manufacturing data i.e. production control charts, reliability, process capability, to improve the process and monitor and measure progress to target
 Identify ways to reduce production costs trough recommendations i.e. new process equipment, equipment justification to improve performance
 Provide production line support focusing on the machines, materials, methods and employees to improve product quality, process yield and equipment uptime
 Participate on problem solving teams and project teams as a technical resource geared towards improving the performance of existing processes or systems. Understand the PVC/TPO manufacturing process and be able to relate finished product characteristics and defects to process changes
 Lead the revision of existing operating procedures and the development of new procedures including process specifications, plant change notices (PCN’s), Job Safety Analyses (JSA), One Point Lessons, and other in-plant process and task documentation
 Lead the application, interpretation and utilization of Statistical Process Control (SPC) and other process methodologies as a means to reduce process variability
 Assist with leading the development and execution of Quality and Process Improvement (PI) projects and activities, using standard PI tools such as DOE, Six Sigma tools
 Coordinate Plant Trials with R&D and plant personnel. Ensure trials are accurately conducted and reported
 Lead or participate in process design reviews, raw material qualifications, product and process qualifications, and capability studies. Perform FMEA on all major process and raw material changes and on plant trials.

Personality requirements and skills

Knowledge & Experience Required

 Science degree in Engineering
 Demonstrated experience in an industrial manufacturing operation
 Knowledge of engineering fundamentals and manufacturing analysis tools such as statistical analysis/statistical process control (SPC), process capability studies, lean manufacturing, 5S, Six Sigma, and/or Design of Experiments (DOE)
 Proficiency in using root cause analysis to troubleshoot and solve problems
 Ability to translate technical data into a format/language suitable for personnel and interpret specifications and drawings
 Proven skills in process hazard analysis
 Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and in AutoCAD or other CAD software
