Nadácia Mozaika Zemplína (NMZ) is seeking to recruit a talented, self-starting professional with strong organizational skills, leadership ability and dedication to lead our non-profit organization as Executive Director. This position is an exciting opportunity to have a meaningful impact on the lives of people!

NMZ was established in 2022 as the Slovak branch of a U.S. foundation. Our vision is a world where each person has the opportunity to obtain a good education, has a decent place to live, access to healthcare and a pathway to economic well-being. We are focusing our efforts on the village of Zemplínska Teplica, located about 25km east of Kosice, with a population of 1,850 of which approximately 1/3 are Roma people. Our mission is to bring people together to create hope and help motivated people move from poverty to self-sufficiency. The Executive Director will report to the Foundation’s Board of Directors. The person will have overall responsibility for the Foundation’s programs, staff and advancement of its mission in Slovakia including achievement of strategic goals, developing/implementing/monitoring programs and engaging the community.

Your Responsibilities:

Strategy and Leadership
• Collaborate with the Board to ensure that NMZ is fulfilling its mission.
• Cultivate a strong and transparent relationship with the with the Board; provide regular updates to the Board regarding operations and performance.
• Provide leadership in developing strategic goals and operating plans with the Board, staff and the local community.
• Provide effective and inspiring leadership for all programs and operations.
• Represent the Foundation within the community to help accomplish the Foundation’s mission.
• Actively engage and energize staff, volunteers, mentors and partnering organizations in the work of the Foundation.
• Working with the Board, prepare an annual budget, manage effectively within the budget and report on the progress made and challenges encountered.
• Ensure that all activities operate within the mission and values of the Foundation.

• Ensure that our mission, vision and programs are represented in a compelling manner to all stakeholders.
• Actively listen to and engage in dialogue with the community.
• Actively promote the work of NMZ to the broader community.
• Establish and maintain good working relationships and cooperative arrangements with the schools, municipality, churches, the community center, field social workers and other stakeholders.

Programs and Operations
• Working with the local community, help individuals and families who are motivated to move out of poverty, giving them hope for a better tomorrow.
• Develop and implement high impact programs (NMZ operated or with partners) that align with our mission and values, working closely with staff and others to ensure that they are effective.
• Evaluate programs on an ongoing basis, identifying issues and making adjustments as needed.
• Oversee purchases, construction and renovations of real estate.

Staff Management
• Serve as a leader to NMZ’s staff, volunteers and partners, providing guidance, motivation and support.
• Model and promote, consistent with our values, an organizational culture which attracts and motivates a diverse staff.

• University degree.
• Minimum of five years of relevant experience including managerial experience.
• Experience with non-profit organizations.
• English proficiency (B2 level).
• Experience with working with people from disadvantaged backgrounds (preference for working with the Roma), knowledgeable about generational poverty and strategies to help individuals move out of it, and willing to spend time with the Roma in their neighborhoods creating relationships with individuals and families.

• Strong organizational and planning skills (including project management) with an ability to prioritize.

• Empathy – being able to put yourself in the shoes of others and the humility to see the potential in everyone.
• Networking skills and the ability to create ties with the local community and other nonprofit organizations.
• Ability to create new programs while referencing best practices.
• Willingness to learn and to participate in ongoing professional development.
• The courage to try new things, knowing that we learn from our mistakes.
• Experience with financial management.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office
• Alignment with the values, vision and mission of the Foundation.

Place of work: Zemplinska Teplica.
Contract type: full-time.
Start date: by agreement.
Wage (gross): €2,500/month and more depending on previous experience, professional knowledge and prior compensation.
Relocation expenses: reimbursement available.
