ABOUT THE ROLE

Technical Programme Manager (TPM) manages and delivers IT and infrastructure complex, cross-functional technology programmes that support colleagues and help serve our customers better. They work collaboratively, influence Product, Engineering and business colleagues and lead the programme to deliver value quickly and often.

This job requires to be based in/close to Prague. We currently work in a hybrid model and meet in our office 3 days a week.

About Infrastructure and Global Network Delivery Teams

The Global Infrastructure and Network Delivery Team design, develop and operate the Technology Infrastructure which underpins Tesco’s ability to serve customers and support colleagues. Our responsibilities span technologies across data centres, offices, stores and distribution centres and the global network which connects them. The global team is distributed across the UK, Central Europe and India.

Our team of TPMs manages the delivery of Infrastructure changes across Technology. During a year the team works on over 25 different projects (with approx. 10-15 concurrently at any one time). These span across the whole of our businesses from stores, distribution and office.

This is a key role which will involve engagement with engineering teams based in the UK, Central Europe, and India as well as a range of stakeholders across UK and CE. You will be responsible for delivering the Infrastructure required to support our key technology delivery.

An ideal candidate will not only be technically proficient but will also have great leadership and soft skills. A willingness to learn and flex based on the demands of the programme are key to succeeding in this role.

WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

Whilst specific responsibilities will be dependent upon the changing needs of the Tesco business, the following provides an overview of the role’s key responsibilities and measures:

  • Deliver complex projects/programmes with multiple business and technical risks that will impact the success of key Tesco business priorities
  • Establish new or improve existing programme delivery methodology to deliver the programme goals.
  • Create and track a plan to deliver the programme goals, including the technical implementation plan, ensuring colleagues and stakeholders from across Tesco are kept up to date, manage risks.
  • Understand trade-offs in project delivery using experience and influencing skills to drive consensus with the Engineering and Product teams to obtain the best value and solution.
  • Able to foresee potential risks and issues, establish a process, facilitate discussion, and manage timely escalations.
  • Be aware and evaluate trends and new concepts in programme and product delivery.
  • Able to understand a technical architecture to be able to foresee the impact on dependencies, delivery timelines and implementation plans.
  • Have good knowledge of engineering best practices and practical infrastructure implementations to appreciate delivery challenges.
  • Build positive relationships with suppliers & external stakeholders to deliver software or professional services, holding them to account on delivery and improvement plans.
  • Support vendor selection processes (tendering, agreeing SLAs, warranty periods, outsourcing).
  • Work with all involved stakeholders on daily basis (Senior managers, other TPMs and supporting Engineering/Product teams, Technology Vendors) and ensure stakeholders are updated with the right information to drive the correct decisions.
  • Coach peers and other roles, teaching where required, on methodologies and programme management tools
  • Moderate and be part of technical discussion between technology teams (infrastructure, security, development, …).
  • Contribute actively to TPM community.

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW?

Must have:

  • Team player attitude
  • Have a proven record of accomplishment in delivering technology and/or infrastructure; having done so across multiple teams in multiple geographies.
  • Strong Project, Stakeholder & Programme management skills
  • Strong vendor management and negotiating skills.
  • Excellent reporting skills for programs and financial forecasting
  • Excellent communication & influencing skills and adoptability to change.
  • Strong decision making and prioritization skills (problem solving), great analytical skills
  • Open mind, independent and practical thinking. Enthusiastic, and responsive person with the ability to plan and organise
  • Flexibility and Adaptability – ability to easy adapt to new and changing requirements
  • Ownership and commitment towards assigned products / projects
  • Experience with planning and implementation of procedures for risk management
  • Being able to present key messages briefly using written and verbal techniques
  • English language is a must (both written and fluent spoken).
  • Willingness to travel based on the programme needs (e.g. UK)

Key Skills and Experience

An ideal candidate must have demonstrated below key skills in their current and past roles:

  • Have a proven record of accomplishment in delivering a Network Transformation Programme with a specific focus on LAN, WAN, WLAN, structured cabling, also experience of working with different Network components such as APs, WLCs, WAP, Routers, Gateways, Anchor Controllers, Firewalls, Switches, Servers (including Proxy), Load Balancers etc.,
  • Have a proven record of accomplishment in delivering a hardware/service/traffic migrations (such as rerouting of the traffic from A to B locations including physical and configuration changes within the complex network infrastructure
  • Have a proven record of accomplishment in delivering technology relating to infrastructure having done so across multiple teams in multiple geographies
  • Have experience of leading the technology changes, including creation the runbooks and managing the implementation of the change with engineers and peers.
  • Have experience of building credible relationships and influencing senior management & leadership teams
  • Strong Project, Stakeholder & Programme management skills
  • Strong vendor management and negotiating skills with a keen focus on ensuring they deliver quality
  • Exceptional reporting skills for programs and financial forecasting
  • Excellent communication & influencing skills and adaptability to changes
  • Excellent Risk and Issue Management
  • Accreditation in Project Management (e.g. Prince 2, PMI PMP, MSP) and experienced in ITIL Service Management Framework and Principles

ADVANTAGE WOULD BE:

  • Experience with work in international environment
  • Knowledge of Technology & Security standards (system integration, patching, databases, security trends, etc.)
  • Knowledge and experience of software technical design choices
  • Basic overview of current Technology trends
