Electrical Engineer

About the role

As an Electrical Engineer, you will bridge the gap between electrical design and physical implementation. Working closely with the Chief Engineer and the wider Systems Automation team, you will take direct responsibility for the hands-on assembly, testing, integration, and validation of marine electrical propulsion and power distribution systems.

This role is suited to a practical and safety-focused problem-solver who is equally comfortable wiring an electrical test bench, troubleshooting hardware, and reviewing complex system schematics. You will contribute to the development of autonomous and remotely operated marine vessels in a fast-paced startup environment.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build, wire, and connect electrical test benches for the safe and effective operation of DC electrical motors.

• Assemble, integrate, and troubleshoot propulsion and power distribution systems for autonomous and remotely operated marine vessels.

• Read, interpret, and refine complex electrical schematics to support accurate physical assembly and ensure system safety.

• Configure and work safely with high-voltage DC systems, including 400V architectures.

• Conduct electrical testing, performance validation, fault-finding, and system verification.

• Ensure that electrical installations comply with relevant maritime, defence, and workplace safety standards.

• Work closely with automation engineers to integrate power systems with control structures and remote-operation hardware.

• Identify practical improvements to system designs, test procedures, wiring layouts, and integration processes.

• Take ownership of the testing and integration lifecycle, from initial setup through validation and troubleshooting.

• Maintain clear technical documentation and communicate test results, issues, and recommendations effectively.

RequirementsEssential

• Proven hands-on experience reading, interpreting, and working directly from electrical schematics.

• Demonstrated experience physically connecting and configuring electrical test benches for DC electrical motors.

• Strong foundation in electrical engineering principles, electrical testing, and system integration.

• Strong commitment to workplace safety, electrical safety, and hardware protection protocols.

• Ability to troubleshoot electrical systems methodically and resolve practical integration issues.

• Ability to work independently and take ownership in a fast-paced startup environment.

• Clear and effective communication skills in English.

Desirable

• Direct hands-on experience building, testing, maintaining, or troubleshooting 400V DC systems.

• Previous experience in the maritime, naval defence, marine engineering, or autonomous vehicle sectors.

• Familiarity with high-reliability system safety methodologies, such as STPA.

• Knowledge of marine classification society standards and compliance requirements.

• Experience working with electrical propulsion systems, power distribution systems, motor controllers, or remote-operated vehicles.

• Experience collaborating with controls, automation, software, or systems engineering teams.
