Position Overview
The Senior Associate of StepStone Private Debt – Data Science & Engineering (DSE) will be responsible for maintenance and development of the Data Science and Business Logic functions which drive the company’s Portfolio Management System. The Senior Associate will work closely with the other teams within SPD DSE to maintain and ensure efficiencies the business’s Data Science capabilities. As a senior member of the Department, the DSE Senior Associate is expected to provide a combination of technical expertise, team development, and strategic awareness.

Essential Job Functions:

1. Data Science and Business Logic
- Senior Department resource for updates/additions to the Data Science and Business Logic functionality of the Portfolio Management System.
- Serve as Project Manager, overseeing all aspects of the core team deliverables with respect to Business Logic functionality.
- Ensure key deadlines are established, continuously strived for, and met on time.
- Manage, anticipate, and communicate needs for relevant project deliverables.
- Ensure a flexible systems infrastructure is strived for to handle any future updates/additions that the Firm may need implemented.
- Strive to develop the team’s offerings to add value to the Firm.
- Strive to ensure the quality of functionality and data within the Portfolio Management System is of the highest standard.
- Primarily focussed on maintenance of existing functionality and ensuring scalability
- Ensuring the constant application of best practices throughout the system

2. Team Development
- Responsible for day-to-day leadership of assigned team (i.e. Direct Reports).
- Provide management of project responsibilities, as well as coordination and collaboration with other leaders within the broader DSE team on shared Direct Report resources, where applicable.
- Work with Direct Reports to help manage day-to-day operations of the team.
- Actively develop, engage and mentor Direct Reports by offering guidance, constructive criticism and increasing scope of responsibilities based on merit.
- Provide explanation and reinforcement of Department-wide communications, initiatives, and training objectives to Direct Reports.
- Serve as primary coordinator and key contributor to annual performance evaluations for Direct Reports. Evaluations will require solicitation of feedback from relevant Department teammates and will be formally presented to Direct Reports.
- Actively mentor and develop junior members of the Department (outside of their Direct Reports) and participate in team building with the broader Department.
- As a senior member of the Department, the Senior Associate is held to the highest standard of respectful communication, which is instrumental in setting the tone for the rest of the Department team.
- Ensure rotation of project topics to ensure a well-developed and rounded skillset/level of experience among the team.

3. Strategic Awareness
- Offer ideas for improving overall operations, efficiency, and value-added services for the Department.
- Based on depth of experience, possesses (or is expected to possess) resident/domain expertise on subject matters of importance to the Department and broader Firm.
- Work with senior management to implement Department-wide strategic initiatives amongst Direct Reports.
- Maintain awareness of Department standards and objectives at all times while implementing solutions and managing projects
- Perform other duties as requested or as responsibilities dictate.

Education & Work Experience Requirements:
- Possess at least a bachelor’s degree (Computer Science, Data Analytics, Mathematics, Physics, or other technical/quantitative discipline), Masters’ degree in above area is preferred
- Relevant experience in computing/code writing environment (4+ years)
- Excellent & demonstrable SQL programming skills is a must
- Experience with other computing languages is a bonus
- Data visualisation skills are a bonus

- Proven ability to multi-task and manage priorities against key deadlines
- Proven ability to work with stakeholders across various departments within the organization
