Porsche Werkzeugbau GmbH can look back on a history spanning more than 100 years. The company was founded in 1898, continuing the traditions of metal processing in the Ore Mountains. The craft-based enterprise developed into a market-leading company, which soon became known beyond the local region. The company developed cutting and forming tools for the automotive industry, so that the company can justifiably be seen as the “cradle of large tool engineering” in Germany.

In 1938, the Schwarzenberg plant, the former ESEM (Erzgebirgische Schnittwerkzeug- und Maschinenfabrik Schwarzenberg), started production of the tools for the first VW Beetle developed by Prof. Dr. Ferdinand Porsche. For the first time in German automotive engineering, the roof, rear window and cowl panel were produced from one piece.
After the Second World War, the company was restructured into VEB Formenbau Schwarzenberg and established an excellent global reputation for itself. It also played a decisive part in development of body toolmaking in the former GDR. On 1st January 1993, the former Formenbau GmbH Schwarzenberg became KUKA Werkzeugbau Schwarzenberg GmbH and operated from 2007 onwards under the name KUKA Systems GmbH Toolmaking Division.
On 3rd August 2015, the toolmaking division was acquired by Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG as a 100% subsidiary and has since operated as Porsche Werkzeugbau GmbH in Schwarzenberg and as Porsche Werkzeugbau s.r.o. in Dubnica (Slovakia). The company also has a business unit in China. Porsche Werkzeugbau also manufactures highly complex tools for other renowned car manufacturers. The service offering is also being constantly expanded and includes everything from support in the commissioning phase through to regular maintenance.
